Around three years ago I started noticing a shift in my mental and physical health. My energy was on the decline and I didn’t feel as sharp when working with my therapy clients. Sleep continued to become more and more elusive. I'd fall asleep ok enough, but typically wake up most nights between 2 to 4am, often unable to go back to sleep. Slowly I started noticing that most mornings my joints (like, ALL OF MY JOINTS!!) were stiff upon waking and often would take til midday for that ache to subside. I felt more irritable and short with my partner and son.
I brought up these concerns with my OB and primary care doc, sharing that it felt possibly hormone-related. They said no, lab results looked “normal” on hormones. At times I felt lost and alone in this journey, some days feeling like a shell of myself. Looking back I now realize that many of these symptoms were related to perimenopause. Even just having a name to put to my experience helped. Also, educating myself, making some lifestyle changes and starting hormone replacement therapy have all been game changers!
We hope this space can help foster new friendships and a sense of community among local women.
For both Cameron and myself this has been a deeply personal journey that has created the momentum around our current Maven Mindset offering. We recognize that menopause can be a challenging transition for many women, both physically and emotionally. The hormonal changes, symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings, and sense of a major life shift can feel overwhelming. By creating this support and educational group, we hope to provide a safe space for women to share their experiences, concerns, and coping strategies within the group.
While the tides are starting to shift, menopause is still not discussed openly enough in society. Many women suffer in silence or feel embarrassed about their symptoms. Our goal is that Maven Mindset will help break down that stigma and encourage more frank conversations about this natural part of aging. We are striving to empower women with knowledge and resources to manage their health during this transition.
Menopause can sometimes feel isolating, especially for women who don't have close friends in the same life stage. We hope this space can help foster new friendships and a sense of community among local women. Social connection can be invaluable for emotional well-being during any time of transition. One of our goals for this space is to provide an opportunity to reframe menopause from a time of “drying up and aging out” to an empowered state of becoming more fully your embodied and authentic self.
