When Amy and I first started talking about a support group for women navigating perimenopause, we laughed and agreed that we aren't experts in the multifaceted layers of this life transition, but, DANG, wouldn't we love to become experts of our own experience- making the best, most informed choices for ourselves as we holistically manage our health care in our 40s, 50s, and beyond. The feminine archetype we really resonated with was The Maven- the woman who has lived enough life that she has a LOT of experience, and has become an expert in a variety of domains of her life. Why then shouldn't we be able to be mavens as we enter menopause?
Regardless of the limitations in our current medical systems here in the United States, why couldn't we become informed, connected, supported, and empowered experts, with the agency to make wise decisions and live our most vibrant lives? This is what we strive for, together, embodying a Maven Mindset.
The Maven's Mindset
At the core of the Maven's approach to perimenopause is an insatiable curiosity. These women dive deep into research, becoming well-versed in both the physiological and psychological aspects of this transition. But their knowledge doesn't remain personal; Mavens naturally evolve into valuable sources of information for their peers, sharing insights and strategies that can benefit others on the same journey.

Taking Charge of Health
Armed with information, Mavens become their own best advocates. They approach healthcare proactively, seeking out specialists and pushing for appropriate tests or treatments. Understanding that perimenopause affects the whole person, they address physical, emotional, and mental well-being with equal importance. This holistic approach often leads to more comprehensive and effective management of perimenopausal symptoms.
Adaptability and Critical Thinking
As perimenopause progresses and symptoms evolve, Mavens shine in their ability to adapt. They critically evaluate different treatment options and lifestyle changes, basing decisions on solid evidence. This analytical approach, combined with a willingness to adjust routines quickly, allows Mavens to navigate the often unpredictable nature of perimenopause with grace and effectiveness.
Embracing Technology and Experimentation
In today's digital age, Mavens leverage technology to manage their health. From symptom-tracking apps to wearable devices, they use these tools to gain insights into their bodies and experiences. This tech-savvy approach is paired with a willingness to experiment with various management strategies, meticulously tracking results to find what works best for their individual needs.
Building Community and Sharing Wisdom
Perhaps one of the most impactful aspects of the Maven's journey through perimenopause is their role in community building. Many create or join support groups, fostering spaces for shared experiences and knowledge exchange. In these communities, Mavens challenge misconceptions about perimenopause, spreading accurate information and offering support. Many take on mentorship roles, preparing younger women for this life stage and helping to demystify the process.
Continuous Growth
For Mavens, the perimenopausal journey is one of continuous learning. They stay updated on the latest research and medical advancements, always eager to refine their understanding and approach. This commitment to ongoing education not only benefits them personally but also enriches the knowledge they can share with others.
Our belief is that by approaching perimenopause with the Maven's blend of curiosity, critical thinking, and community-mindedness, women can transform this transition into a period of profound personal growth and empowerment. The Maven's journey through perimenopause shows us that with the right mindset, even life's challenges can become opportunities for learning, adaptation, and positive change.
